In the news

The convenience of having one source that covers federal, state and local jurisdictions is a huge timesaver,”

“…Compliance on Demand provides timely and well-rounded perspectives from ADP and our peers in the ADP client community. That guidance and reassurance is extremely valuable.”

Background

The previous tool was complicated—not because it was inherently complex, but because of a poorly designed interface and disorganized information architecture. It offered a scattered mix of PDFs, articles, and videos, making it difficult for users to find relevant support. The business aimed to elevate this disjointed experience into a simplified, user-centered resource where practitioners could easily access up-to-date compliance guidance and legal assistance.

Hard to Find

Information and content was organized in complicated buckets that were difficult for clients to understand, search and navigate.

Approach

Discovery + Analysis

We conducted a comprehensive audit of compliance content to understand its scope and organization. Content was found to exist either as standalone pieces or as part of larger collections containing varied formats. This helped us identify inconsistencies in how content is categorized and accessed.

Practitioners primarily search by state and then by subject, with about 80% following this pattern. They want to search for specific terms and filter by content type from a central landing page. Once they find state-specific content, users often refine their search within that subset, highlighting the need for persistent filtering and a more responsive search experience.

Breaking it down

I identified all Content types and organized them into their own pillars and also larger buckets that house multiple types of content.

Final Output

Based on metrics and testing, Search and Browse were prioritized, allowing users to easily further refine searches, and specifically filter by state. Clients add favorites, schedule updates for specific issues and link to similar content.
